MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Possible human remains were found in Panola County, Mississippi on Thursday, the county sheriff’s office says, and they could be connected to two men who were reported missing.
A dog found a skull or part of a skull near Barnacre Road and brought it home, authorities said. Residents contacted authorities.
Late Friday afternoon, Panola County Sheriff Shane Phelps said more human remains have been found as well as some articles of clothing.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is on the scene collecting evidence, which will be sent to the state crime lab.
The remains have been sent to the state medical examiner’s office to confirm if they are human.
Panola County started search efforts Thursday afternoon but stopped at dark for the safety of searchers.
The search resumed Friday morning with two cadaver dogs.
Authorities believe the remains could be linked to one, or both, of two men missing from Panola County since February.
Batesville native Larry James Robinson, Jr., 47, and Sardis native Wayne Miller, 33, have been missing for weeks.
In February, a search was conducted on Barnacre Road east of the current location, but nothing was found.
WREG spoke with family members in February of 47-year-old Larry James Robinson, Jr. of Batesville and 33-year-old Wayne Miller of Sardis, who both went missing in Panola County.
Miller’s car was found on February 5 near Zodiac Park in Memphis. Robinson was last seen on January 22.
“He said, ‘Momma, you know you got a birthday coming up. I’m gonna get you something nice for your birthday.’ I just laughed. From there on I haven’t heard from my baby,” said Annette Haynes, mother of Wayne Miller.
“We are asking that you would please come forward and share what you know. If it was your family you would want somebody to tell you something. We just want to know,” said Rosetta Robinson, mother of Larry James Robinson.
WREG was told family members of Robinson and Miller have been notified about the search effort.
