Police arrest suspect who owned gun that shot teen in jaw

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– Memphis Police say they have arrested the suspect who owned the gun that shot a 15-year-old Kennedy Gilmore in the jaw.

They have identified the suspect as 22-year-old Lorenzo Davis.

He has been charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, child abuse, providing handguns to juveniles and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

On July 25, police say they responded to a shooting at a house located at 2891 Letrec Cove.

Gilmore told them she was at a friend’s house and was sitting on the bed on her phone.

She said she was in the room with three other minors who knew Davis, and that he was in possession of a dark colored handgun that he took out of his pocket and began showing the gun to the three minors.

Gilmore said that three of them were near the loaded gun when it discharged, hitting the girl in the jaw.

She told police she fell to the ground and could hear a male’s voice say, “Run” and that’s when she saw Davis leave the house with the gun in his hand.

She suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of her jaw and was taken to Regional One.

Gilmore was able to identify Davis in a six-person photo lineup.

Davis was arrested Wednesday and his court date is scheduled for Friday morning.

His bond is set at $10,000.
