MEMPHIS, Tenn.– Overgrown grass, high weeds and overhanging trees at a nearby lot are causing problems for one Memphis family.

They say the property has been abandoned for about six months now.

The family says they called 3-1-1 to get in touch with someone about cleaning it, but there was no luck.

They’re concerned about rodents, snakes, and potential squatters.

“We don’t know if a squatter could come over here. And then if a squatter comes, what’s going to happen to this neighborhood? There’s elderly people in this neighborhood. There’s working people in this neighborhood,” said Mary Matthews, a neighbor living in the area.

3-1-1, of course, is meant to make it easy for Memphians to file complaints about everything from potholes and abandoned vehicles to vacant properties and illegal dumping.

According to the 3-1-1 public dashboard, there are nearly 15,000 active tickets across the different departments.
