MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Detectives were called back to the Frayser neighborhood Wednesday evening in response to a deadly shooting.

A man was found fatally shot and pronounced dead around 6:30 near Madewell Street and Madewell Cove.

Resident Marcus Young said he took cover in his home when he heard seven or eight shots in the neighborhood. He said he had three grandchildren in the house with him, settling in for the night.

“We went and got in the middle of the hallway, because we didn’t know where the bullets were coming from,” Young said.

But this type of violence so close to home is new, he said.

“We have never had no violence on this street, never,” Young said.

Since January 1, within a half-mile radius from that intersection, police have responded 104 times for assaults, homicides, robberies, break-ins and weapon violations, according to the city’s data tracker.

That’s nearly one call per day.

Police are saying this is an ongoing investigation. If you know anything that could help detectives, call Crimestoppers at 528-CASH.
