JACKSON, Tenn. — A day after the arrest of quadruple murder suspect Austin Drummond, there are still questions about the motive in the murder of four family members last Tuesday.

Investigators are trying to figure out how Drummond managed to elude law enforcement for days before finally being captured Tuesday.

The search for Drummond began on MCO Road on Friday, where his vehicle was found, but he was arrested miles from the location on Tuesday.

“I guess the main question is, yeah. If he dumped the vehicle, then somebody would have had to have driven him. I don’t think it’s possible he could have walked from MCO to where they found him at Union Trails,” said Grany McLemore,

McLemore works at Catbird Studio, which is not far from where Austin Drummond was captured in an upscale gated community near Union University, using a pool house for shelter.

“Somebody may have dropped him off and then gotten rid of the car later. If he was related with a gang then there were probably people helping him. They’ve already arrested a few,” said McLemore.

Three people have been arrested and charged with Accessory After the Fact to First Degree Murder.

On Tuesday, during a press conference detailing Drummond’s arrest, it was confirmed that Drummond appeared to have help staying a step ahead of law enforcement.

“We weren’t surprised that he was still here in the area. We know he was obtaining support, obviously. As you know, we have arrested individuals who were providing that,” said Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director David Rausch.

TBI Director Rausch would not elaborate but did say weapons were recovered Tuesday when Drummond was arrested.

He declined to discuss a motive in the deaths of the four family members who died from gunshot wounds, but he did comment on Drummond’s connection to the victims.

“The suspect’s girlfriend is the sister of a victim, daughter of a victim, and is the sister of two victims,” said Rausch.

TBI said more than one tipster may be eligible for a reward for information in the case.

Austin Drummond is scheduled to appear in Lake County court in Tiptonville on Thursday.

WREG will be there to let you know what happens.
