JACKSON, Tenn. — Austin Drummond, the man suspected of killing four family members, was captured in Jackson, Tennessee, after nearly a week on the run.
Drummond was apprehended after a construction worker spotted him and alerted police, leading to his arrest in a pool house within a gated community.
The manhunt had put the community on edge, with Drummond being described by investigators as a “force of evil” that ignited fear across multiple counties.
Ricardo Contreras called 911 after one of his workers informed him about hearing someone in the woods.
Drummond was initially discovered by a groundskeeper hiding in a pool shed, which led to his subsequent capture by law enforcement officers.
Shanna Tabor, a resident near where Drummond was found, expressed her relief that the suspect was no longer at large.
“It’s a lot less stressful that he’s not running around here anymore,” she said, hoping that the families affected by the tragedy could find some peace.
Tabor said the pool shed where Drummond was found is just across her property line in her neighbors’ backyard, and her neighbors were out of town.
“By 9 a.m., they had Pleasant Plains Extended closed and there was a manhunt going on in my backyard and it’s terrifying honestly,” she said.
With Drummond’s capture, the community hopes to return to normalcy, while the families of the victims seek closure knowing the suspect is in custody.
