MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man who served time in prison for the kidnapping and murder of nursing student Holly Bobo loses an appeal to get out of prison on gun charges.

Jason Autry, 50, a 16-time convicted felon, served eight years for solicitation of first-degree murder and facilitation of especially aggravated kidnapping in Bobo’s death in 2011.

He also served time for being a felon in possession of a handgun.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee said approximately 25 days after his September 2020 release from prison, Autry was found in possession of a gun, which he had stolen. And within 78 days of his release, he possessed other guns and ammunition.

In November 2022, he pleaded guilty to three counts of being a felon in possession of guns and ammunition.

In 2024, a judge sentenced Autry to 19 years in federal prison for the gun offenses.

The Sixth Circuit court upheld the sentence on Thursday and said that Autry had a criminal past, including aggravated assault, drug trafficking, burglary, active membership in the violent Aryan Nation gang, and admitted participation in Bobo’s abduction and murder.

Reports said Autry was violent towards his partners and family members, committed a racially-motivated assault, and was involved in violent altercations and drug trafficking while serving prison sentences and during pre-trial detention.
