Dust blows into the Mid-South from the plains

Have you noticed the dusty haze in the air today?

A dust storm in the southern plains is to blame!

Dust has been carried eastward with the jet stream winds (winds well above the earths surface) and into the Mid-South.

Notice the hazy look to the sky from our West Memphis tower cam, taken around 2 pm this afternoon.

You can also see the dust on satellite imagery as well – in the brown color. This was around 1 pm this afternoon.

There is even a Blowing Dust Warning until 9pm for northeast Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel, where blowing dust is causing reduced visibility.

Those with respiratory issues should make preparations to stay indoors!
