“I’m bullish on Memphis’ future. I think sometimes we get enamored by the new and we want to take a bad deal. And that deal was not a good deal for the University of Memphis.”

That was eight months ago when Tigers Athletic Director Ed Scott announced that Memphis had passed on an offer to join the new look Pac-12, calling it a bad deal.  But Scott also said the U of M would not close the door on the Pac-12, if the deal got better.

This weekend, Boise State Athletic Director Jeremiah Dickey, whose Broncos along with San Diego State, Fresno State, Colorado State, Utah State and Gonzaga will join Pac-12 leftovers Washington State and Oregon State in 2026, asked for questions on social media.  One Tiger fan chimed in, asking Dickey about Memphis potentially joining the Pac-12.

In response to the question, Dickey said “I will never say never.  Memphis has a great AD who I think highly of. He will do what’s best for his team and fan base. This stuff isn’t easy.  I am a big fan of AAC commissioner as well.  We will see what happens. I know everything happens for a reason! Our goal is to elevate!!”

Nothing definitive there.

Hopeful, yes.
