MEMPHIS — It’s been a rollercoaster 72 hours for Grizzlies franchise star Jaren Jackson Junior.

The ups… Monday and that reported five year, 240-million-dollar deal being finalized between Jackson and the Grizzlies.

Then came the downs… Tuesday’s news that Jackson needed surgery on a turf toe injury followed by Wednesday’s update that Jackson will miss at least the next three months as the team says the two-time NBA All-Star will be re-evaluated in 12 weeks.

That timeline suggests, at best, Jackson will return in time for training camp and the start of the preseason in late September or early October. But the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year will need time to ramp up and get back into game shape, so the season opener and the start of the season, could be in jeopardy.

That means the Grizzlies could be looking at tipping off a new season without two starters with Zach Edey already set to miss the start of the season after ankle surgery in early June.
