MEMPHIS — Monday was the day the NBA offseason kicked into overdrive with free agent frenzy tipping off at 5 pm.

And that’s when the Grizzlies went to work.

The number one goal this summer was to sign Jaren Jackson Junior to an extension and on day one, the deal seems like it’s done. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Jackson and the Grizzlies are finalizing a new five-year, 240-million dollar max extension for one of the NBA’s truly unique players.

The only player with 15 hundred points and 100 blocks last year. Jackson also posted his fourth straight season of at least 100 3’s and 100 blocks which is the longest such streak in NBA history.

This new contract with keep Jackson, who averaged over 22 points, 5-plus rebounds, one and a half blocks and over one steal a game last season, in Memphis through the 2029-2030 season.

The second piece of business for the Grizzlies was to decide the future of Santi Aldama in the Beale Street Blue.

He’s staying to. After the team made a qualifying offer to Aldama over the weekend, allowing the Grizzlies to match any offer Aldama received from another team.

No offer came.

No offer needed.

Charania says the Grizzlies and Aldama have come to terms on a three year, 52 and a half million dollar contract.

Aldama is coming off a career year with the Grizzlies, scoring 12 and a half points and pulling down six a half rebounds last year. It was his fourth season in Memphis after the Grizzlies acquired him on draft night in 2021.

A rookie last year, Cam Spencer also gets a two-year guaranteed deal. Two years… four and a half million bucks.
