The Doak Walker Award preseason watch list is out and not one but two Tigers have made the cut. The 1-2 punch Ryan Silverfield is hoping leads to another huge season for Memphis.

Greg Desrosiers Jr. is on the list as is Sutton Smith. Smith’s expected breakout season last year was cut short, in the season’s first game, when Smith was lost for the year with an injured knee.

Fast forward almost a year later and Smith is ready to go for the Tigers.

“Sutton is full go. We’re going to be smart with him, though, because any time you’re coming off an ACL, you don’t want to run him into the ground. He’s also now going into his fourth year of college football at that position. But he’s worked tremendously hard to get back to where he needs to be, and just like I said last year at this time, we had very, very high expectations,” Silverfield said. “Sutton Smith, he’s done a phenomenal job rehabbing with recovery. So he’s full go. If he had his way, he’d get every rep in every play at practice.”
