DAYTONA, Fla. (WGHP) — Defending NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano has a history with the Daytona 500.

Logano, of Middletown, Connecticut, drives the No. 22 Ford for Team Penske. He has 17 full seasons in the NASCAR Cup Series behind him, including championship wins in 2018, 2022 and 2024.

He won the Daytona 500 in 2015 but failed to finish in 2024. Last year, he was just nine laps short of the checkered flag when he was taken out in an 18-vehicle crash.

Now, as he heads into his 17th run of the Great American Race, he says that his one win isn’t good enough and he’s going for gold.

“You need to fight complacency, especially at this point in my career,” Logano said. “You can’t feel like it’s good enough, ever. And so whether that’s as far as the wins or your team, your car, yourself, nothing can ever be good enough, and you just got to keep looking for those little things to be better.”

Driving some of that pressure is the pressure to do right by — surprisingly enough — his paint job.

“I don’t know exactly what they call it, but it’s the same paint scheme that Joseph Newgarden ran in the Indy 500, so it’s 1-2 in a row with this. It’s only been raced twice before this in Indycars. Won both times, so the pressure’s on to keep this paint job undefeated.”

DraftKings puts his odds of winning the 2025 Daytona 500 at +1200.

FOX8’s Kevin Connolly and Danny Harnden and WFLA’s JB Biunno spent Wednesday afternoon catching up with drivers as they get ready to hit the speedway this Sunday for the Daytona 500. You can check out their full interview with Joey Logano in the video player above.
