Was 2024 the best year? Here’s where Americans stand

(NewsNation) — As 2024 comes to an end, Americans have mixed feelings about the year.

A survey of 2,000 people by Talker Research gave 2024 an average score of 6.1 out of 10.


While 16% rated the year an 8, 17% gave it a 7, and another 17% rated it a 5. On the extreme, 8% awarded the year a perfect 10, while 5% gave it a 1 out of 10.

The most meaningful highlight for many wasn’t a major milestone, but reconnecting with friends and family — 17% of Americans named this their most memorable experience. Tied for second were personal growth, welcoming a new pet and mastering a new skill or hobby, each chosen by 12%. Volunteering and contributing to causes came behind at 11%.

Personal development emerged as a key theme in 2024, with 67% of respondents reporting growth over the year. Improvements in personal health (52%) and mental well-being (38%) were among the most cited positive changes.

Other significant accomplishments included overcoming major health challenges (9%), paying off debts (8%) and achieving savings goals (7%). Meanwhile, 10% found joy in exploring new places, and 6% fulfilled their dream vacations and relocated to new homes.
