WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Vice President JD Vance touched down in Indianapolis on Thursday, as the Trump administration tries to convince Republican-led states to redraw district lines for the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Vice President met with Gov. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) at the state house.
“We covered a wide array of topics,” Braun said.
Braun was asked if he and Vance came to an agreement.
“We listened,” he responded.
Braun confirmed they did discuss redistricting.
Historically, the party in the White House has suffered during midterm elections. Republicans are trying to maintain control of the U.S. House of Representatives.
President Donald Trump has pushed Republican-led states to draw lines for congressional districts that would give Republicans a better chance of keeping the House. In Texas, the first state to unveil a new map, Republicans drew a map that would give Republicans a better chance of winning 5 more seats in the U.S. House.
But this week, Texas Republicans left the state to try and delay a vote on the new maps.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton have tried to use the Texas State Troopers to arrest Democrats who left the state. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said FBI Director Kash Patel approved his request for the FBI to help find and arrest those Democrats.
The FBI declined to answer questions about the agency’s involvement.
House district lines are usually redrawn and reconsidered every 10 years, coinciding with the U.S. Census.
On Thursday, President Trump called for a “new and highly accurate CENSUS.”
