FAYETTEVILLE, AR — Officials say a man with a machete injured two people during an attack in a wooded area near the University of Arkansas campus east of Razorback Road and south of Martin Luther King Boulevard.
University spokesman Steve Voorhies says the attack happened around 7:15 Thursday night.
He says no one involved is believed to be a student and campus operations weren’t affected.
One of the victims was in critical condition.
The man is identified as 36-year-ol Ashley Kyle Pettey according to KFSM-TV.
Police say Pettey was camping in the area when he said two people told him he had to move on according to an arrest report.

Pettey swung the machete several times hitting both victims in the neck.
One person needed stitches in his arm and neck while the other had to have stitches to prevent him bleeding to death.
Pettey had an injury to his eye.
University police Capt. Matt Mills says the suspect was also injured in the incident.
He was taken to a hospital and has since been arrested.
Pettey is facing charges of first and second-degree battery and aggravated assault, the report states..
The attack happened in the same area as a homicide earlier this year.
