Senatobia Board of Alderman votes ‘no’ to reappointing police chief

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — During a Board of Aldermen meeting in Senatobia, Mississippi, on Tuesday night, the motion to reappoint Police Chief Richard Chandler did not receive enough votes to pass.

In a statement to WREG, Alderman Chris McConnell said that he was one of three aldermen who voted no.

“While I can’t speak on behalf of the entire board, I can say that my vote was made with the people of Ward 4 in mind — focused on restoring public trust, accountability, and a renewed direction for our city’s leadership,” McConnell said.

He told WREG that it is now up to other city leaders to determine who will replace Chandler in either an interim or permanent role.

“As for who is currently in charge of the Senatobia Police Department, that question would need to be directed to the Mayor’s office or City Administration, as the board is not responsible for interim assignments,” McConnell said.
