MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The City of Memphis is working on major plans to revitalize the riverfront, which includes a brand new riverboat landing that will be located near the Bass Pro Pyramid.

“This is the final step in moving the riverboats to their permanent home about a half mile north from the current spot, so we can make sure the historic cobblestones are preserved,” said Scott Morgan, director of Public Works.

Out of the $14 million being spent on preserving the historic cobblestone landing, $4.5 million will be spent on the new Lone Star paddleboat landing that will be the new home for riverboats.

The city says the project should be completed by late next year.

“We’ll have a bid project under contract by the end of the year, and the project takes about 12 months,” said Morgan.

WREG also learned that the $43 million Beale Street Landing, which hasn’t seen a boat docked since August of 2023, will finish phase one of their construction plan by December, in an attempt to get major cruise ships back to downtown Memphis.

“That’s because Beale Street Landing is essentially inoperable for those cruises to park there, so this will be the first step in getting those cruises to park there,” said Morgan.

As we wait for Beale Street Landing to return, the new riverboat landing next to Bass Pro Landing will also be ADA compliant, as the city is trying to enhance the riverboat experience.

“If we can enhance the local riverboats that are doing the day cruises and the dinner cruises and things like that, to get more people to downtown. It’s a win-win,” said Morgan.

Beale Street Landing will end phase one of its construction plan in December, and there has been no word on when phase two will be completed.
