MSCS teacher shortage not deterring instructors

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– Despite teacher shortages and cuts to the federal budget, educators are remaining encouraged.

They’re busy decorating classrooms and shopping for essentials, all while sharpening their skills through development workshops to help first time students.

Danielle Walker is a kindergarten teacher and says her students bring her joy.

She’s making sure her students have supplies and tools they need.

She’s challenging each of them to aim for perfect attendance this year.

Walker believes in taking a holistic approach and focusing on the individual needs of each student and says it goes a long way, especially for first time students.

“Be encouraged, like a lot of people, I mean, and they want to be in the education field. They say, you know, the test are hard or the kids are not getting the knowledge they need at home,” Walker mentioned.

“And it’s kind of hard, but just stay encouraged. If there’s something that you want to do, you definitely will grow.”

Teachers are encouraging parents to keep in contact with administration with any questions they may have and to abide by those scheduled bedtimes.
