MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Shelby County Schools announced on Saturday that they’ve received the resignation of Executive Director of Safety and Security, George Harris.
Harris informed the District that he is stepping away for “personal reasons.”
He issued the following statement:
“Effective August 17, 2024, I will be resigning as Executive Director of Safety and Security for personal reasons. I have enjoyed my short time with an amazing team of Directors Riley, Elliott, and Boyd; they do amazing work.
George Harris
The District said they “fully support” Harris’ decision and “appreciate his willingness to serve in Memphis”.
On Monday, Harris took part in a meeting with Dr. Marie Feagins and MSCS security resource officers regarding a possible strike.
WREG reported that the meeting did not go well and officers stormed out after meeting Harris.
On Tuesday, MSCS leaders and the SROs struck a deal to avoid a walkout.
They added that they have no further comments on this personnel matter.
