Mother, boyfriend charged in death of baby burned in oven

HOUSTON —  A mother and her boyfriend have been arrested and charged in the death of a 19-month-old child who was placed inside an oven.

Racquel Thompson and Cornell Malone were both taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with four counts of endangering a child, reported CBS News.

They told investigators they left the children alone to get pizza and then visit Malone’s brother.

WREG reported on Monday, the tragedy happened after the child, J’zyra Thompson, and her two 3-year-old siblings were left along in their home.

Another 5-year-old sibling was also in the home at the time, but was asleep at the time.

A court document said one of the children put the little girl in the oven and then turned it on.

Those three children were taken into foster care.
