MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A father wants justice for his son, who was shot to death two years ago in Frayser.
Larry Porterfield is angry, heartbroken, and hurt because his son’s killers have not been caught.
Memphis Police say the shooting that took the life of Barry Porterfield, 30, happened on June 6, 2023.
“My cousin from the grove, he came knocking on the door and woke me up, it was around 12 or 1,” said Larry Porterfield.
Barry was shot in the 2500 block of Smith Ridge Cove.
MPD said they responded to the scene just after 9 p.m., there were two people shot.
One was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and the other victim Barry Porterfield died on the scene.
Larry said that he hasn’t been told much about his son’s case, but what was shared has crushed him.
“He was shot, three people with automatic weapons, they was hiding in the shadows, they wasn’t waiting for him, they was waiting for someone else,” said Larry Porterfield.
“He walked up on some stuff they he didn’t know nothing about that wasn’t intended for him, they was out to kill somebody, if you got them men with three automatic weapons, they were intended to kill somebody and it look like they didn’t care who,” said Porterfield.
He said that he was told that one of the gunmen even walked up to his son while he was on the ground, bleeding, and shot him again at close range and then ran away.
“They are not going to stop there, If you they got away with it, they are going to kill somebody else’s child,” said Porterfield.
Police say that they are looking for six gunmen involved in this homicide. Barry Porterfield also leaves behind a teenage daughter.
