MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is now in jail after being accused of hitting a police officer with her car Saturday night in Raleigh.

Shatima White, 26, is charged with Assault on a First Responder, Reckless Driving, Disregarding a Red Light/Stop Sign, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident involving Injury.

On April 14 around 7:40 p.m., officers say they responded to a vehicle disturbance at James Road and Highland Road. Vehicles were reportedly driving recklessly and doing donuts, causing traffic to stop.

Officers say they arrived at the scene and initiated their lights and sirens. That is when multiple vehicles sped away, weaving in and out of traffic.

An officer attempted to retrieve stop sticks to get a Ford Mustang to stop, but it kept going. Police say the driver of the Mustang tried to do a U-turn and hit the officer in the right leg.

The officer rolled over the hood of the vehicle and hit the ground. The officer was able to read the tag on the vehicle as it completed the U-turn and sped off.

The officer was then taken to Methodist North in non-critical condition.

Shortly afterward, MPD was able to locate the vehicle on North Highland Street near Chelsea Avenue after it ran a stop sign. A traffic stop was then initiated.

The female driver, later identified as Shatima White, was taken into custody.

The officer has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.

White’s next court date is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
