MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A water main break in a Parkway Village neighborhood caused a sinkhole to form early Tuesday morning in front of a home on the side of the street.
When WREG crews arrived at the scene on Wooddale Avenue and Perkins Road, water could be seen sprouting out of the ground into a yard onto a parked car.
Residents in the neighborhood say it started around 4 a.m. The back windows of two family vehicles were shattered and their vehicles were also flooded.
The family inside the house, closest to where the water main break happened says not only are both of their cars destroyed, but their home was damaged from the gushing water.
According to Memphis, Light, Gas, and Water, 30 to 35 customers are impacted.
At this time it is unclear what caused the damage. But MLGW says the water is currently off and repairs could take 8 to 9 hours to complete.
