MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are looking for a man who viciously attacked and robbed a woman who was sleeping on a bench outside a Cooper-Young restaurant.
The incident occurred in the 900 block of Cooper just before 5 a.m. on July 5. The business was closed at the time.
MPD said a man struck the 68-year-old victim, who appeared to be homeless, and took her backpack.

Video provided by the restaurant shows that the woman was ambushed and hit with what appeared to be the metal lid of a trash can.
In the surveillance video, you can see the woman sit up after the assault. Police said she was transported to the hospital but have not released details about her injuries.


MPD has released pictures of the suspect who was last seen running eastbound on Young Avenue towards East Parkway.
