MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A warrant has been issued for the suspect accused of firing shots at Memphis Police officers in downtown Memphis.

Memphis Police say a warrant has been issued for the arrest of 22-year-old Victor Peeler.

According to Memphis Police, shots were fired at officers as they responded to a call about an armed person on Rufus Thomas Boulevard and Peabody Place on Friday morning.

Police say the Downtown Command Center observed the incident in real-time using surveillance cameras.

“We’re looking obviously for those individuals,” said Deputy Chief Samuel Hines. “We have good video.”

Memphis Police say the vehicle used in the incident, a black Nissan Juke, was last seen heading east on Peabody Place.

Police allege that the passenger in the vehicle fired several shots at the officers.

None of the officers were injured as they all ducked for cover.

That passenger was later identified as Victor Peeler.

Two days later, the search for Peeler continues.

Peeler is facing 12 counts of attempted murder and one count of reckless endangerment.

All of this happened just before 2 a.m.

“Me and the guys will come down here, but we know to be off Beale Street before one o’clock,” Jalen Betts said. “Yeah, one o’clock is like the deadline that we got to get up out of here.”

Those visiting the downtown area said this is why they remain vigilant at all times.

“That’s why we try to stay early. When the Sun’s out, we out,” Reign Erdy said. “When the Sun goes down, we out.”

Others said they’re not going to allow anyone to spoil their fun.

“Once you get out here and participate in going forward out here, you can see it ain’t too much to be afraid of,” Mason Cole said.
