Uber driver assaulted, car stolen by passengers at cemetery

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say an Uber driver was assaulted and carjacked by at least six people at a Southwest Memphis cemetery.

The driver told officers it happened on July 26 in the middle of the afternoon when he went to the New Park Cemetery on Horn Lake Road to pick up a female customer.

The Uber driver said when he arrived at the cemetery, four females and two males got into his red 2018 Nissan, and when he stopped at the front gate of the cemetery, one of the females sprayed him in the face with pepper spray.

The driver said that’s when he was pulled from the car and assaulted, and the group drove off in his vehicle.

MPD has released video of the four female suspects who were later captured on camera at a shopping center in the 3800 block of Jackson Avenue.

In February, a female Uber driver was carjacked by two men and two women at a convenience store in South Memphis.

The victim said she dropped all four off at the County Line Express, but when three of the suspects got out of the car, the fourth carjacked her with a gun. She says the man threatened to shoot her if she did not get out of the vehicle.

And in April, two 17-year-olds were arrested for allegedly dragging an Uber driver out of his car at gunpoint in the airport and stealing his car.
