MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Tadarrius Bean, a former Memphis Police officer who was federally convicted in the beating death of Tyre Nichols, has been released from house arrest.

A motion was granted on Tuesday allowing for the modification of Bean’s release and detention order. He was ultimately released from house arrest and granted a curfew.

Bean is one of the five former MPD officers accused of beating Tyre Nichols during a traffic stop on January 7, 2023, leading to his death three days later.

On October 3, 2024, Bean was found guilty only on an obstruction charge after the four-week-long federal trial, but not guilty on other charges including violation of civil rights.

The five officers now face state criminal charges of Second-Degree Murder. A trial date was set for April 28.
