MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Federal sentencing for one of the ex-officers in Tyre Nichols’ death has been rescheduled.

Desmond Mills will now face sentencing June 23, according to an order signed by Judge Mark Norris on Monday. Mills, who took a plea deal on the federal charges, was scheduled for sentencing June 17.

Mills cited the unavailability of necessary character witnesses and other reasons for requesting a continuance.

Sentencing for the five — Tadarrius Bean, Justin Smith, Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills and Emmitt Martin III — had been set for next week, beginning Monday.

At this point, the other four, besides Mills, are still set for sentencing.
