MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people are headed to the hospital after a car crash in Midtown on Saturday.

At 2:05 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at South Bellevue Boulevard and Peabody Avenue.

One victim was taken to Regional One Hospital with a gunshot wound. The other victim was transported to the same hospital with non-critical injuries from the accident.

A St. John Methodist Church employee says he was waiting for church members to arrive when he saw the crash happen right before his eyes.

“They thought he was dead,” the employee named Robert said. “They had to run him to the emergency room because he was hurting bad.”

The church employee said the black car had three people inside when it ran the light and hit the truck occupied by two women.

Another witness named Juanita Harden said she saw the car speeding away after a shooting down the street.

“Yeah, evidently he got shot down that way. And made it up here and ran into another vehicle,” she said. “They got the windows covered up. The car is messed up pretty bad.”

MPD has not released any information about the suspect at this time.
