MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two men are in the hospital after getting shot outside of a Whitehaven restaurant on Friday night, Memphis Police say.
At 10:14 p.m., officers responded to an aggravated assault at Sake vs. Tequila, a sushi restaurant in the 3800 block of Elvis Presley Boulevard.
“They got into a fight outside the premises and then after that happened, somehow they started shooting. He was parked inside and he got out and he started shooting from like right here outside,” said Brandon, who identified himself as an assistant manager of the restaurant.
Brandon told WREG that the fight led him to try to de-escalate things. His next plan of action was to call the police.
When officers arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds on the south side of the building.
Near the victims, a large crowd had gathered, with two vehicles nearby.
Officers looked into one of the vehicles, a silver 2012 Mazda 3, and located a handgun in the backseat behind the driver’s side.
One of the victims said that the gun was his and he brought it out when the unknown suspect began shooting at him.
Both victims were shot and taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition.
A witness on the scene said that she saw the suspect shooting from Elvis Presley Boulevard toward the victims.
The suspect was described as a short man with long dreadlocks wearing a white sweater.
An officer located spent shell casings in the roadway on Elvis Presley where the suspect was seen shooting.
A complainant also told officers that the building was struck by gunfire on the south side.
As officers watched surveillance footage of the shooting, one of the victims could be seen firing shots at the suspect.
