MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The FedEx St. Jude Championship is set to begin Thursday at TPC Southwind, bringing top golfers from around the world to the Mid-South.
On Wednesday, fans enjoyed a Pro-Am event featuring celebrities, while players familiarized themselves with the newly renovated course.
“It’s been a lot of fun watching them beautifully hit the ball,” said David White, a golf fan. “I recommend if you get practice, definitely come out here, you’ll have some fun.”
The special festivities included the dedication of the Purple Eagle Plane to Bailey, an 8-year-old St. Jude patient, marking a heartfelt moment for attendees.
Golfers told WREG that Memphis’s heat and humidity will take some time to get used to.
One of the biggest storylines, though, is who is not attending, as 70 golfers were invited, and one declined. That golfer is the Masters winner, Rory McIlroy.
On Wednesday, most of the attention has been on the heavy favorite and world number one Scottie Scheffler, who is trying to continue a historic season at the FedEx St Jude Championship.
