MEMPHIS, Tenn.– A 14-year-old is facing multiple charges after two other teenagers died in a crash near the Memphis airport early Monday morning, according to Memphis Police.

The accident happened at Shelby Drive and Tchulahoma around 4:30 am.

Police said the 14-year-old was driving recklessly and lost control and struck a utility pole.

A 17-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl named Renarda “ReRe” Anderson were killed in the crash. Two other teens were taken to area hospitals.

Asia Michelle is Anderson’s cousin. She’s overcome with grief.

“She was like a baby to me. She’s been around us since she came out the womb like we stayed together under the same roof,” Michelle said. “She was smart, funny. She was a dancer. She was just open-minded. She was a lot of stuff.”

Michelle said she doesn’t know any of the other teens who were in the car and says she doesn’t know why Anderson was with them.

According to police, the 14-year-old driver suffered a minor injury. He was arrested and charged Wednesday with two counts of vehicular homicide, three counts of aggravated assault, driver to exercise due care, reckless driving, child curfew, no driver’s license and violation of financial responsibility law.

Based on the crash report, the 14-year-old was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol but police haven’t said why he was behind the wheel.
