MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people were killed and three others were injured after a shooting early Tuesday morning at a Frayser sports bar and grill, according to Memphis Police.
Officers say they responded to a shooting call at the Infiniti Sports Bar & Grill on 2536 North Watkins Street just before 2 a.m. One man was found and pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man was taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
Police released these photos of the suspect.
Two additional men were taken to the hospital by a private vehicle in critical condition. A woman was also taken to the hospital by a private vehicle in non-critical condition.
After further investigation, police say an argument inside that club is what led to the shooting.
No charges have been filed at this time. But this is still an ongoing investigation.
People in the neighborhood say something must be done because of the ongoing violence that occurs at this location.
“Places like this. When you’ve got everything going on, it needs to be monitored,” said Charles Nunn, a Memphis resident.
Back in February, a man was left severely injured after police say he accidentally shot himself at the same Frayser sports bar and grill.
According to reports, an employee was cleaning up the place when his gun went off, accidentally shooting himself.
Another person was shot at the same bar in 2018.
Some believe the sports bar could soon be deemed a nuisance.
“We have to do something as a community is just not a person who holds status. This is a US thing. It’s one moral thing we have to say for within each other, so that we can understand that respecting one life is something that we should take and hold as sacred,” said JB Smiley Jr., Memphis City Councilman.
According to Memphis Data Hub, there have been 14 homicides in the Frayser area so far this year. Residents believe solving the issue of crime starts at home, but also with elected leaders.
“They’ve got to come up with something. You know we can’t do it. That’s what we are choosing them for. You know, to help us fight our crime,” Nunn said.
Councilman Smiley, who is also running for Shelby County Mayor, says it takes the entire community to combat the crime crisis.
“We have to change the laws so that it can be tougher on those individuals who are committing these violent crimes. If they’re committing a violent crime in our community, we need to lock them up and throw away the key. There is no excuse for violent crime. No excuse. We have to make sure that we’re putting each and every person in a better position,” Councilman Smiley said.
