MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people were left injured after an overnight shooting at a sports bar in Midtown, according to the Memphis Police Department.
Officers say they arrived at TJ Mulligans on 2021 Madison Avenue regarding a shooting around 11:40 p.m. on Sunday.
A witness told officers that he and the victim were at the restaurant when the suspect became verbally aggressive with the victim in the bathroom. That is when the witness says the suspect pulled out a knife on the victim before dropping it.
The altercation moved toward the bar area where the witness says the suspect punched the victim and security along with another unknown person got involved.
During the scuffle, police say a gun was fired by the unknown suspect.
Officers say video footage from the bar showed the suspect leaving the restroom and handing the unknown suspect an object, possibly a firearm before the incident at the bar escalated. The object was seen on camera being used to strike the victim.
A victim was taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition which later upgraded to critical condition due to the injuries.
One person was detained for questioning but later released after police said they determined the victim was not a suspect. The victim was then taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition suffering from a gunshot wound in his buttocks.
Police say a firearm and a pocket knife were found underneath a table in the bar area.
Just last Thursday, police say they were called to the TJ Mulligans parking lot on Houston Levee around 1 a.m.
