MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man who was released from jail without bond after being accused of shooting at least four people outside of Railgarten last month is set to face a judge Wednesday morning.

Detawn Gunn faces multiple charges including five counts of criminal attempt second-degree murder after he allegedly fired shots at a Midtown restaurant, Railgarten, over a parking spot.

Gunn’s initial bond was set at $500,000 by a Judicial Commissioner and the District Attorney requested to keep that bond amount.

Even though Gunn’s attorney asked for the bond to be reduced to $75,000, he walked away from jail without paying anything after he was released on his own recognizance.

Corey Coleman, one of the victims allegedly shot by Gunn, says he’s confused about the court decision to release him following what happened.

“He pulled out the gun the first time and I had my 14-year-old next to me,” Coleman said. “I said man, let’s go. So, as we moved, he drove toward the exit like he was going to go and then I heard the people from behind say ‘He got a gun!’ Like, he was getting out the car and that’s when he started trying to come down on me.”

Coleman was able to get away, but he says he was shot multiple times by birdshot rounds.

“Shots in the rib, the back, stomach. I got staples all the way across. Whole back ate up here and the back of the head,” Coleman said.

After Gunn’s release from jail, lawmakers began to share their concerns.

Brent Taylor, Tennessee State Senator, wrote a letter to Marshall Davidson who serves as the Disciplinary Counsel for the Board of Judicial Conduct and investigates complaints made against judges.

In the letter, Taylor states that when Judge Bill Anderson let Gunn out of jail he violated the new state law requiring the safety of the community to be the first consideration of bail. Another letter was also written to District Attorney Steve Mulroy, attempting to get Gunn’s bond reinstated.
