MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A former employee at a South Memphis tire shop allegedly fired multiple shots at the business overnight, prompting the owner to return fire.
Multiple police cars and crime scene tape were seen in the area of East Davant Avenue in front of a tire shop in the 2100 block of South Third Street. Police responded to the shooting around 1:30 a.m.
A man on the scene told police that he was asleep inside his business when he heard gunshots. He said he got up, went outside with his firearm, and returned fire at the suspect in the area of Davant Street.
Police say they were told by the victim that the shooter was a former employee who tried to come inside the business, but employees refused to let him in after seeing he had a gun.
The suspect arrived at the tire shop with another suspect and fled the scene on foot after shooting at the business. The MPD did not provide any additional information regarding the suspects.
