MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A fight among parents at an elementary school graduation in West Memphis, Arkansas, is now under investigation, prompting a “zero tolerance” response from the district’s superintendent.
The fight at Faulk Elementary was captured on camera in the school hallway, showing multiple women and men throwing punches at each other on Wednesday.
In the background of the video’s audio, you can hear what appears to be children screaming and pleading for the parents to “stop.”
WREG Reporter: What do you think that type of message sends to kids, seeing parents fight like that?
Eric Thompson, West Memphis, AR resident: “That they can do the same thing and it’s a bad influence and they are not handling themselves as an adult.”
One woman in West Memphis agrees that this type of behavior sends the wrong message to children and says that those who are involved should face consequences.
“It shouldn’t be happening around children, especially, and these are grown folks at a kids’ graduation. It shouldn’t be happening at all,” she said. “All of them need to be held accountable for it. Everybody who’s involved. That’s what I think about it.”
The superintendent of the West Memphis School District, Eric Foister, says the district is in full support of the prosecution of those involved.
