MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 22-year-old man is facing drug and weapons charges after he was caught on a live camera with a gun in downtown Memphis, police say.
Kelvin Davis was booked in the Shelby County Jail on Monday for possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, unlawful possession of weapons, possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to police, on July 13 at around 1:30 am, officers at the department’s downtown command center saw three males with guns walking toward pedestrians at Peabody Place and Rufus Thomas.
North Main Street officers said when they got to the location, they observed men with guns matching the command center’s description entering and exiting a black Charger.
MPD said Davis was detained when he tried to walk away from the Charger.
Officers said they observed several guns in plain sight, and because they could not get inside the vehicle, had it towed to the city lot.
Officers said they found a red backpack containing a large bag of marijuana, 15 multi-colored bags of marijuana, a digital scale, and illegal weapons inside the Charger.
Police said they seized three loaded handguns, including two Glocks equipped with machine gun conversion devices.
The two men police said were with Davis in the Charger have not been arrested yet.
Davis is being held on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
MPD’s downtown command center at 250 Peabody Place opened in April.
