MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Over 10,000 Memphis, Light, Gas, and Water customers were without power in East Memphis Friday morning. They have since restored power to the area.

The company says a squirrel took out a circuit breaker at a substation which caused it to fail and lose power, ultimately affecting the Poplar corridor area.

A total of 10,519 customers were left in the dark, according to the power outage map. MLGW says 95% of power was restored to customers within ten minutes.

Memphis Police was also notified to help with traffic control in the area during that time.
