MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The man accused of trying to run a Southaven, Miss., police officer over in a stolen car Friday has been identified and charged.
Marcus Coleman, 20, has been charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Conspiracy to commit a crime – felony, Disorderly Conduct – failure to comply, Suspended Drivers License, Fleeing/Eluding officer in Motor Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Firearm, and Resisting Arrest.
At around 10:45 a.m. on Friday, the Southaven Police Department responded to reports of a stolen vehicle located at the Sonic at 1185 Main Street. The suspect, identified as Coleman, was found near the location, but when officers attempted to stop him, he allegedly rammed officers with the stolen car.
Police say Coleman tried to run over one of the officers, and shots were fired. He was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.
Coleman is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
