Man accused of setting car on fire, pouring gasoline on sister and dog

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A North Memphis man is facing a slew of charges after police say he set a car on fire and threatened to do the same thing to his sister and her dog.

Alfred Davis was booked in the Shelby County Jail on Wednesday for attempted murder, aggravated assault, animal cruelty, possession of a controlled substance, and domestic assault.

The victim said Tuesday she came home and discovered her brother drunk on her front porch.

She said she scolded him when he began cursing, and after she went inside her house, she smelled a strong odor of gasoline coming from her driveway.

She said Davis was standing near her car with a gas can. The woman said her brother said, “B**** I’mma gonna show you something'” and splashed gasoline on her.

The victim said that when her dog, “Big Dude,” rushed outside and Davis threw gasoline on the animal.

The sister said her Chevy Impala ignited, and the fire spread up the stairs of her home, where she had been standing.

Davis fled the scene but was arrested by police nearby on Omar Street. Officers said they found a small package of fentanyl in his wallet.

He is being held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
