A WREG viewer from Arlington submitted the video above of a lightning strike followed by an explosion.
A neighbor, Corey Bradley, was woken up by the lightning and thunder around 3 a.m. and saw the fire at his neighbor’s house.
“I was making me some coffee and my alarm kept going off on my camera system, so I finally looked at my phone when I looked at my phone I saw like a glow on my neighbor’s house,” said Bradley.
Bradley said he called 911 in and Debbie Bradley was recording the flames and first responders putting out the fire after searching the home for occupants.
“They had visible fire showing when they got there, attempted an aggressive interior attack offensively, and tried that for a while and had to change tactics, back out and go defensive, roof started coming in on them,” said Patrick Loflin, Assistant Chief, Arlington Fire Department.
The Arlington Fire Department was assisted by the Shelby County Fire Department, with about 12 first responders on the scene.
The fire was reported under control around 4 a.m. No other structures were damaged.
Assistant Chief Loflin said there were no injuries and there is no damage estimate available currently.
