FedEx to hold public memorial for Fred Smith

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — FedEx has announced that it will hold a public memorial for founder Fred Smith.

FedEx says that the memorial will be held on August 11 at the FedExForum and will begin at 10 AM. The company says the program will feature speakers and musical performances.

Smith, who founded FedEx in 1973, died at 80 years old on June 21. Since Smith’s death, many lawmakers and city leaders, as well as FedEx employees, have paid tribute to the business titan.

August 11 would’ve been Smith’s 81st birthday.

Soon after Smith’s death, the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority Board approved a measure to rename the Memphis International Airport in his honor.
