MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is in custody after police say he shot his son when they got into a physical fight Wednesday.
Warren McCilinton, 56, is charged with aggravated assault. He is being held on a $40,000 bond.
On January 17 around 2:18 p.m., officers say they responded to a South Memphis home on Carlton Road regarding an aggravated assault. McCilinton stated that he had shot his son during a fight.
MPD says it started when McCilinton refused to give his son a ride to work. That is when the son got upset and they began to argue.
McCilinton stated that his son then grabbed him by his neck and pushed him against a wall. While his son was on top of him, McCilinton reportedly grabbed his gun from the holster on his waist and fired a shot.
The gunfire hit his son in the right leg, according to reports.
McCilinton also said he was the one who called the police after the shooting. The son was then taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning.
