TUNICA COUNTY, Miss. — Tunica County deputies believe they have recovered the body of the man wanted for a deadly triple shooting Friday in the 1000 block of Soleil Drive.
They say he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Deputies said Markello Braxton, 42, shot and killed 30-year-old Nykeria Jude and wounded two others, including a 6-year-old and a 24-year-old.
Authorities said the 6-year-old is Braxton’s daughter. She is in the hospital in stable condition.
The 24-year-old is Braxton’s son, Marquavious Young. He was released from the hospital on Sunday.
The body was discovered on Monday, not far from the Soleil Drive residence. Tunica County authorities could not say how long it had been there.
“This property here borders the golf course, but there’s a section of field between this property and the golf course, and he was located in that section between the two,” said Lt. William Rooker.
When investigators made it to the scene Friday, they found three shooting victims, including Nykeria Jude, who died from her injuries.
The six-year-old girl and a 24-year-old man who was also shot were airlifted to hospitals.
The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing.
“We’ll continue with the investigation. We will put the pieces of the puzzle together. There’s still a lot of work to do, it is an ongoing investigation, once we get to a closing point, and everything’s completed, then we will know where we are,” Lt. Rooker said.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help with the six-year-old’s medical expenses and Nykeria Jude’s funeral.
