MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Barnes & Noble is getting ready to open a new store in Germantown.

The company said it will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony and book signing for author Avery Cunningham on Wednesday, August 6, at 9 a.m. at the Exeter Road location.

Cunningham will be cutting the ribbon and signing copies of her debut novel, The Mayor of Maxwell Street.

The bookstore, located in the Germantown Collection next to The Container Store, will be the third Barnes & Noble in Shelby County. The other locations are at the Wolfchase Mall and in Collierville.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be bringing this brand-new bookstore to Germantown,” said Store Manager Noah Stringer, a Barnes & Noble bookseller of 11 years. “I can’t wait to welcome the community of Germantown into their Barnes and Noble.”

The Germantown store will cover nearly 10,000 square feet and carry books, toys, games, paper, and gift items.

“We are very pleased to open this beautiful new bookstore in Germantown, our third in the Memphis area,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “Since Borders closed nearly 15 years ago, the residents of Germantown have been without a major bookstore. The enthusiastic response from the community has been very encouraging, and our Germantown booksellers have been hard at work preparing a bookstore curated with their new customers in mind.”

The Germantown location is one of five new Barnes & Noble bookstores that will open in August, alongside new stores in Kansas, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Texas.
