Armed Memphis man arrested for allegedly fighting Tipton County deputies

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An armed man driving a stolen vehicle was arrested by the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department last week.

On January 12, officials received information from the Memphis Police Department that a stolen green Honda CRV was possibly in the Tipton County area.


On January 16, deputies saw the vehicle at the intersection of Simmons and Wilkinsville Road, at the M&E Market. Deputies found the suspect, Jacob Sanders, inside the store and asked if he had any weapons.

Sanders, 26, admitted he had a gun on him.

As officers tried to detain Sanders, they say he began fighting them. Deputies eventually gained control, removed the firearm from his waistband, and took him into custody.  

One deputy was injured during the fight but has since been treated.

Jacob Sanders is charged with Aggravated Assault with Injury, Aggravated Assault without Injury, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Stolen Property over $10k, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Dangerous Felony.

He is currently being held without bond.
