MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A fundraiser for an 81-year-old woman, who was living in her car five days ago, has nearly reached $70,000.

Christine Marshall could not believe that her GoFundMe had reached close to $70,000.

Five days ago, she was living in a hot car outside her dilapidated house.

Mama and her son Antoine Hardin say they’re going to use the money to rebuild her house.

Right now, they’re clearing out the space so that it’s ready for repair.

WREG sent Marshall and Hardin a list of everyone who contacted the station offering help.

“That’s amazing to see how many people care, and I’m so glad that it happened and she got her smile back, it’s all I wanted, and I feel much better,” said Hardin.

Phil Melton has been friends with Mama for 25 years, and said the donations couldn’t have gone to a better person.

“She’s just grateful, that’s the only thing I can say, she’s very appreciative of everything that has taken place in the last 5, 6 days, it’s nothing short of remarkable,” said Melton, friends with Mama.

WREG has received several calls from the community offering to help Mama. It will be up to her and her son to decide which company they want to use to make repairs.

Hardin has agreed to let WREG follow their progress.

The GoFundMe is still accepting donations here.
