MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Video shows large potholes and exposed steel rods on the Hernando DeSoto Bridge between Memphis and Arkansas.
This is the same bridge that was closed for months in 2021 when inspectors discovered a crack in a steel beam.
In the video below, you can see what it’s like to drive over the eastbound lanes on the bridge in three versions: regular speed, with freeze frames that show the potholes and slow motion.
WREG contacted the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Soon after, they said a crew from Arkansas would be out quickly to make repairs.
Sure enough, crews arrived before 8 p.m. Sunday and shut down the right and middle lanes while repairs were made.
TDOT said the incident is not considered dangerous and there are no plans to close the bridge.
